Are you thinking about doing a boudoir photoshoot? Oooo baby, I am so dang excited if you are!! Whether you want to surprise your partner with the photos or do it as an empowering experience for yourself, there are several things you can do to make sure you feel amazing and your photoshoot is super successful! In this blog, you’ll learn the do’s and don’ts when it comes to preparing for your boudoir photoshoot. I’m spillin’ the tea with all the tips you’ll need to get ready, as well as how to make the most of the experience. Let’s get you feelin’ strong, confident and straight up shmexy!!!
DO: Keep It Consistent
Whether it’s 1 step or 13 steps, daily or throughout the day, it’s safe to assume that we all have some sort of self care or personal hygiene routine. With that, the night (or two, or three) before your empowerment boudoir photoshoot is not the time to try out a new skincare routine, specialty diet or sleep schedule. While it may be tempting to switch things up with the photoshoot in mind, I recommend sticking to your regular routines leading up to your session to avoid any surprise (and potentially negative) effects.
DO: Get A Good Night’s Sleep
Nothing like a little sleep deprivation to bring our little friend anxiety out of hiding. Empowerment sessions are for YOU and I want you to have SO much fun!! I also always make sure I’m well-rested before a shoot day so I can bring my all. Imagine if we both showed up amped on life + ready to get zesty?! AMAZING. So get your beauty sleep hunni so you can wake up ready to receive my love n admiration!
DO: Play That Funky Music
First of all, start yo day RIGHT babayyy! Throw on a big t-shirt and your fave feel-good tunes the morning of your empowerment session. Give yourself lots of time to get ready beforehand. Get a little groovy, wiggle that booty and allow yourself permission to fully lean into this badass experience!
DO: Nourish Your Vessel
Feel free to bring water + snacks to your boudoir photoshoot! You’ll be with us for a number of hours and we don’t want any hangry boudie babes! Also, I know it can be hella tempting to skip food before your session, especially if you’re feeling anxious about getting vulnerable within your body. But listen here, ok? I really, really want you to push through those feelings and eat something. We’re going to be doing lots of posing and moving around! Your boudoir session can truly feel like a solid workout! Being dehydrated or low on blood sugar will only make this experience less enjoyable for you, and that’s definitely not what we want.
DON’T: Panic! At the Disco
Try not to put any extra stress on yourself that will take away from your ability to sit back, relax, and enjoy this incredible thing you’re doing with + for yourself. If that means getting up a few minutes earlier to make sure you’re not in a rush, do it! Or getting a babysitter for a few hours, do it! Don’t rush through the day, this experience is YOURS for the taking, and it can feel like fresh air or a long sigh. You have my full support in putting yourself first (always, but especially on you freakin’ boudoir day).
DON’T: Book Any Body-Modifying Treats or Treatments
Some body alterations can deeply affect your photoshoot. These body modifications come in two categories: (1) things we want to do for the aesthetic but are risky (ahem, spray tans, spontaneous tattoos etc) and (2) scheduled treatments such as cupping or deep acne treatments. This may seem like common sense, but it can be easy to overlook — consider doing a trial run for things in category 1 and avoid scheduling things in category 2 within a week of your session!
DON’T: Second Guess Yourself
It’s the day before your boudoir photoshoot. Put the phone down and avoid obsessing over boudoir inspiration and staying up all night switching between IG + Pinterest or coming up with new dream outfits in your head :p We’ll have already gone over everything together and I’ll no doubt have asked you ALL about your vision and created a whole world for it. All you gotta do now is sit back and let me worry about the rest!

DON’T: Wear Tight Clothing
As may already know, I have absolutely no problem editing out “anything that won’t be there next week” per se, but lines from legging seams, jeans waistbands, tight bra straps, etc are the VANE of my existence. Pleaassee do me (and yourself) a favour and wear loose, stretchy clothing like sweats, joggers, sports bras, tees or sweaters in the hours before your shoot! It’ll make the editing process much quicker and will ensure that your photos are chef’s kiss
DON’T: Take Yourself Too Seriously!!!
At the end of the day, empowerment sessions are meant to be FUN 🙂 It’s only natural to feel those pre-session jitters, and I don’t blame ya! I know how scary it can be getting in front of the camera, especially if you choose to get nekked 👀 Try not to let those thoughts run away with you (you are a beautiful badass work of freaking art!?!?!) If you do find yourself feeling overly stressed or anxious about your photoshoot, let your photographer know. We ain’t no therapists but we’ll help you see the magic within you + hype you the f*ck up when you forget how dang awesome you are. Moral of the story: let your hair down + give yourself permission to have a little FUN.
