Boudoir photography is an art form that celebrates the beauty and s3xuality of our bodies, and helps us explore the intimate, complex relationship we have with our bodies. It’s an entirely unique experience that’s not only shmexy AF, but empowering and hellaaa fun! Despite the growing popularity of boudoir photography, there are still misconceptions and myths surrounding it. As a boudoir photographer, I’ve encountered a number of these myths throughout my career, so I want to address the top 3 boudoir myths that I’ve come across and will share the truth behind them! Whether you’re considering booking an empowering boudoir session or are just curious about the world of boudoir photography, this post will provide you with valuable insights and help shake any misconceptions you may have! Let’s do dis!!

My Top 3 Myths About Your Boudoir Session

Myth #1 – It’s All Very Serious

This is just straight-up, not true. Your boudoir session might just end up being the silliest part of your day (or week, maybe even month hehe). While a lot of your photos may bring out your saucy, sultry, focused, or thoughtful sides, behind the scenes ain’t about that stuff. Your photographer is literally there to have fun with you and make you feel good (literally!!). So helllll yeah, let the dad jokes and s3x jokes and bad dance moves FLOWWWW.

Myth #2 – It’s All About S3x

Sure, boudoir CAN focus on s3xy time, but it doesn’t HAVE to! If you’re looking for a lil kinky action, LFG. But for lots of people, that’s not the motivation behind booking an empowering photoshoot. A huuuugely important part of boudoir (in my books) is embodying your confidence and owning your badass unique miraculous being in a safe space. Your boudoir session is not confined to bedroom themes, it’s about YOU and giving yourself permission to feel like a badass b*tch. It’s about taking ownership of your body and diving into your self-worth journey!

Myth #3 – There Are Rules

You might be thinking there are things you should or shouldn’t do / bring / wear / want for your boudoir session. Plot twist — there are NO rules here (except for you know, honest communication and respecting your space + photographer). What I’m trying to say is that if you wanna wear a full lingerie set and heels, HELL YA. If you wanna bring your cat, I’M DOWN. If you don’t wanna strip down, you DON’T FREAKIN’ HAVE TO. This is your time to shine and it’s your choice how you do so.

Client Love From Their Dreamy Boudoir Session

“It was life changing. Honestly one of the best things I’ve done for myself this year! As a new mother of two in the past three years, I have been discovering this new person I have become and this session was a big part of that! She was up for anything and makes it easy to relax and not feel completely awkward.”
— KAITLIN

“I did an empowerment session (my first ever photoshoot!) with Jac and it was so much fun! I started out incredibly nervous but by a few minutes in I was already feeling confident! Her energy was contagious and she explained and directed each pose as I needed. We were by the river and she was literally willing to get wet to get the perfect shot! I left feeling strong and EMPOWERED! can’t wait to do another!”
— SARAH

“Jac is an incredibly talented and supportive photographer. Even if you don’t know how to pose, she knows all the right prompts to make you feel comfortable in your own skin and also empowered and joyful. I’ve worked with Jac twice now and each time has been unique and special in its own way. She takes her time to make sure you’re getting what you want out of it and the quality of the photos are amazing! 10/10 would recommend Jac.”
— APARNA

“She was so easy going and put me at ease quickly. Being in front of the camera is always a little nerve wracking but even in my skivvies Jac was able to make me laugh and feel incredibly comfortable and brave.”
